Activity 1: Limbo
How low can you go? Let’s limbo!
This activity is featured in our Hawaiian Luau Date since doing the limbo is a popular activity at luaus in Hawaii despite not really have any other historical significance to the island. Fun fact – it was actually invented in Trinidad and Tobago.
What you need for this activity
- A broom, mop, or other form for pole
Instructions
Before you start – check out this chick for inspiration!
Choose your prizes or punishments for the winner and loser. Here are some suggestions!
- The winner gets a 15 minute massage from the losing partner
- The winner gets a kid-free sleeping in morning with breakfast in bed provided by the losing partner
- The winner is free of laundry duty for a week, and the losing partner must take care of all of the laundry
- The winner gets a sexual favor of their choosing, and the losing partner can’t say no
- The winner gets to choose the next Dating in Captivity date!
- Find your first surface to start your limbo. Put one end of your pole on the surface and have 1 partner hold the other end. Partner 2 limbos!
- To limbo, you must walk forward under the pole without touching the pole, steadying your hand on the ground, falling on your butt, etc.
- If a player does any of these things, they lose!
- To limbo, you must walk forward under the pole without touching the pole, steadying your hand on the ground, falling on your butt, etc.
- Switch roles.
- If you both clear the first round, find another object in your home where you can place one end of the pole, and repeat the activity finding lower and lower surfaces.
- Example surfaces from tallest to lowest:
- Door handle
- Countertop
- Top of dining chair
- Back of couch
- Arm of couch
- Seat of chair
- Example surfaces from tallest to lowest:
- Play until one of you loses. The winning partner gets the prize they picked at the beginning of the game!
Activity 2: Watch surfing
Hang loose with your partner and watch a surfing competition! We have probably all seen videos of surfers catching some gnarly waves, but have you ever sat back and watched the pros in action? In this activity, you and your partner will watch a surfing competition video and place your bets on who you think will be the winner!
What you need for this activity
- Your computer or phone
- Pen and paper
Instructions
- Without doing any research, you should each pick 1 contestant from Heat 1 and 1 contestant from Heat 2 below to cheer for (so you each are rooting for 2 contestants throughout the competition).
- Watch the surfing competition video.
- If you would like to shorten the activity, change the playback speed on the video so it goes more quickly.
- At the end of Heat 1, make note of the number of points your chosen contestant for Heat 1 received. Repeat at the end of Heat 2 for your Heat 2 contestant. At the end of the finals (end of the competition), add up any points you have for any of the contestants you have remaining in the competition. Add all of your scores for the whole competition together to get your Total Score.
- Heat 1 contestant score + Heat 2 contestant score + finals contestant score(s) = Total Score
- If you did not have any contestants in the finals, you do not get any points for the final round.
- Check the Prize tab below to see what to do once you have your Total Score.

Surf competition video
So we know this is supposed to be the Hawaiian date, but we had a really hard time finding a good video for this activity that was based in Hawaii. So instead we chose one from California. We hope it still gives the same ocean vibes 😉
Heat 1 results (don’t open unless you need to double-check after this part of the competition)
Heat 2 results (don’t open unless you need to double-check after this part of the competition)
Final results (don’t open unless you need to double-check after this part of the competition)
Prize
The partner with the highest score should subtract the losing partner’s score from their total. The remaining score is the number of minutes that the losing partner has to give the winning partner a full body massage!
Highest Total Score – Lowest Total Score = Number of massage minutes
Activity 3: Hula hoop together
Hula hooping in itself can be a challenge, but when you and your partner try to do it together in one hoop, it can be. . . hilarious. See if you and your partner can coordinate your pelvic rotations to get that hoop going!
What you need for this activity
- A hula hoop (bigger ones work better for two, and one that is/can be weighted)
Instructions
- Watch the video “tandem hula hooping” below to see how it’s done.
- Stand together with your partner inside your hula hoop and see if you can do 10 full hoop rotations together!
- If you absolutely can’t make it work, try playing with one of the other 3 variations from the “variations” tab below.
Tandem hula hooping
Variations
- Take turns hula hooping and see who can do it the longest. Set a stopwatch to track the time you can hula hoop, or set a timer for 1 minute (or 2 or 3 or 4 if you are pros) and set prizes for yourselves if you each can meet the goal!
- Play ring toss with your hula hoop on each other. Have one partner sit on the floor and the other partner stand a decent distance away. Make sure there is nothing surrounding the sitting partner that can break if bumped by the hoop. The standing partner should throw the hoop like a ring and see if they can get it around their partner. Only do this with an unweighted hoop! The sitting partner should be sure to duck their head and cover their face to prevent any injuries.
- Stand next to each other with your arms outstretch towards each other. Put the hoop one of your arms, and then hold hands (so you look like the letter “H” with your arms connected in the middle, and the hoop hanging on one partner’s outstretched arm). See if you can get the hula hoop spinning vertically between your arms, and if you can move the hoop from one partner’s arm to the other and back. Make sure there is nothing around you that you that the hoop can hit!
Activity 4: Hula
Now that you’ve gotten those hips warmed up, grab your grass skirts and get ready to shimmy! In this activity, you and your partner will be following tutorials to learn the Polynesian art of hula. Put your new moves to the test and channel the spirit of the island waves together!
What you need for this activity
- Your computer or smart TV
- Optional: grass skirts and leis
Instructions
- Start with the “slow and steady basics” video series below to learn some basic hula moves.
- Up your game with the “Hip shimmy (FA’ARAPU)” tutorial and see if you can shake your hips like the Hawaiian pros.
- Finish by applying some of your newly learned moved and doing the remixed Hawaiian dance in the “final dance” video below. Just have fun with it!

Activity 5: Coconut Game
If you have ever seen the movie Just Go With It, you have seen the coconut game that Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler play. Basically you put a coconut between you and your partner and you have to move the coconut up from your bellies to your mouths without touching it with your hands. We’ve added our own special and sexy twists to the game to make it even more fun and date night-worthy!
What you need for this activity
- 1 coconut (or similar sized ball/fruit)
- A phone with a stopwatch app or a stopwatch
Instructions
- Stand facing each other and hold the coconut between your bellies without using your hands.
- Start your stopwatch.
- Using only your bodies and not your hands, move the coconut up until it is between both of your mouths (like you are both kissing it).
- Special Dating in Captivity rule:
- If you drop the coconut on the floor or touch it with your hands, you both must strip 1 item of clothing and start over (re-start the clock).
- Special Dating in Captivity rule:
- Once you have completed the activity, check the time that it took you to complete and then see your prizes below.
- Post a picture of yourselves on social media with the caption “We are cocoNUTS for each other!” and be sure to tag @datingincaptivity.

If you completed the game in over 60 seconds
Awesome! You’ve earned yourselves a giant bear hug together. Woohoo!
Activity 6: Sit by the beach
